Yesterday (Saturday) as we were branding, I was kicked in the hand by a calf. It instantly swelled approx. 1"x1" at the metacarpal bone of the index finger. Within an hour, the swelling went down while light bruising appeared. I wrapped it with an ace bandage and iced lastnight while index and 2nd finger metacarpal bone areas were still swollen. As of tonight, swelling and bruising is still in place. Although, I'm able to move fingers and wrist normally, it's painful to touch middle of index metacarpal bone and numb closer to carpalmetacarpal joint of both index and somewhat of 2nd finger. I've asked several local EMTs for advice. One says to keep it wrapped and iced, could possibly be broke. Another pulled on index finger and said wasn't broke, but ice and wrap. The 3rd said it could still be broke if not fractured. I work construction, therefor I'm trying to avoid going to the doctor and possibly getting cast. I have put together a homemade split to keep it immobilized. Whats the chances of it actually being broke or fractured and what should I do? Thanks!
